Unlicensed Radios
What are Unlicensed Radios?
Unlicensed radios are a type of two-way radio, that differ from their licensed counterpart in one major way: the user doesn’t require a license to use them. This two-way radio type allows two, more multiple individuals to remain in instant communication across distances and are used by both businesses and private users for their ease and reliability.
Ready-to-use and license-free, these radios have a range of up to 10 kilometres (6.5 miles), enabling on-site communications with no call charges – the perfect answer for business and private users who need to stay in touch.
Other differences include power and frequency abilities; for example, unlicensed radios are slightly less powerful than their licensed counterparts, but that is to be expected, due to the ability to be used by the general public, versus the military, for example.
In terms of power capabilities, two-way radios that have more than 0.5W output will require a licence to be used. Anything below this is classified as an unlicensed radio.
